Ikat embroidery and dyeing: these are the outstanding features of this lightweight coat, a wearable oxymoron, a (sur)real ally on warm days. (But you'll also wear it in autumn and spring.) 🪡 Its strap is entirely hand-embroidered. One bead at a time, one stitch after another. You can see it from the floating threads on the back, which testify to the preciousness of the workmanship. We specially covered the strap in transparent silk organza, so all this was visible. 👨🎨 Ikat is the dyeing technique for its cotton, one of the oldest in the world. It is a reserve dyeing, where parts of the threads, even before they are woven, are protected by a tight binding to prevent them from being dyed, while the unbound parts are colored. A process that is done, in short, before weaving; the design, then, that comes off the loom is pure magic. ✂ Its shape is not simply flared: it originates from the kurta, the long shirt with a mandarin collar worn by both men and women in India. Re-proportioned on our patterns, it has become one of the most popular shapes over the years: with its slim yet comfortable bodice, with side slits, and with the strap positioned right there, which elongates and makes the silhouette hyper-feminine.
